Recipe: Easy “Har Gow” (Prawn Dumplings)

Ingredients

Seasoning (your choice) and cornflour

3 Rice papers

120g Frozen prawns

Instructions

  1. Prepare the prawns:
    • Thaw the prawns overnight in the fridge or using the microwave defrost function.
    • Pat dry to remove excess water, then dice and mince them.
    • Add 1 tsp of cornflour and your favorite Asian seasonings (e.g., ginger powder, garlic powder, white pepper, and a pinch of salt).
    • Stir the mixture in a circular motion until the prawns form a paste.
  2. Prepare the wrapper:
    • Pour boiling water onto a large plate.
    • Dip the rice paper for 3-5 seconds, just until it softens slightly (don’t over-soak!).
    • Lay the softened rice paper on a plate or cutting board.
    • Place the prawn paste in the center, then fold the paper inward to form either a square or circular dumpling.
  3. Cook the dumplings:
    • Steam for 5-8 minutes, until the rice paper becomes translucent.
    • Enjoy! (Optional: Serve with low-sodium soy sauce).
